SUMMER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

OVERVIEW:
  • Acclaimed APALI signature program since 1999.
  • An exciting, intensive 15 all-day program in July exploring community, identity, leadership, and civic involvement.
  • Students represent diverse socio-economic, ethnic, language, and academic backgrounds.
  • APALI annually graduates a capacity-class of over 40 enthusiastic students interested in civic leadership and broadening their horizons.
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Discussion/support group led by APALI interns.
  • Interaction with experts and community leaders.
  • Network with peers and student activists.
  • Charter bus community tour.
  • Mock city council presentation.
  • Practicum to host and staff the APALI annual dinner.
2009 PROGRAM:
  • Students earn 8 college units.
  • College-level course, but open to students who are at least entering high school juniors in the fall.
  • Participants have to be committed to 15-day program meeting Tuesday to Thursday, 9:30-4:30, from July 7 to August 7 at De Anza College.
